Wheatley

Within in a St Mary's Church, St Marys Road, Wheatley is a chapel of remembrance with a small dedicatory plaque that reads:
IN THANKFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THOMAS MILNES & SIDNEY BENSON CHURCHWARDENS AND BENEFACTORS AND OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES 1939 - 1945 THIS CHAPEL WAS DEDICATED FEB. 1ST 1953

Son of Robert and Barbara Benson.  
In 1911 family lived at 4 Greenwells Garth Coundon near Bishop Auckland. His mother died when he was 4 and father when he was 12  
Lived at 44 Wharton St, Caundon, nr Bishop Auckland
Reichswald Forest War Cemetery  
Died in Germany about six weeks after VE Day
