Donkeyman - Merchant Navy - S.S. Warlaby (West Hartlepool) 12 February 1941, aged 47 Lived at 23 Nelson Road, Edlington Tower Hill Memorial Warlaby was in position 31 in convoy SLS 64 on a voyage from Alexandria for Oban with a cargo of 4,457 tons meat, 2,827 tons of cotton seed and 125 tons of oil cake. The unescorted convoy was intercepted by the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and Warlaby was sunk, along with a number vessels. |
