Leopoldsburg War Cemetery
Originally buried at Heppen, Belgium before being reburied in present location on 4 August 1946
Killed in action on the Albert Canal, Belgium around the town of Heppen with 4 Company. Died in the area of Heppen, near Leopoldsburg, Belgium as the Allied Forces pushed towards Germany. On the 8th September 1944, the 5th Battalion supported by tanks of the 1st (Armoured) Battalion, advanced to try to capture Bourg Leopold. In spite of launching five attacks in 36 hours, the Coldstream Group could not capture Bourg Leopold itself, but established itself in Heppen. Coldstream Group, coming from Tessenderlo, crossed the Albert Canal with the task of taking over the mining area of the Irish Guards and then continue on to snatch Beverlo and Heppen.

Lost when the light cruiser HMS Gloucester was sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Antikythera Channel about 15 nautical miles west of Antikythera Island, Greece in position 35º50'N, 23º00'E by German Ju-88 and Ju-87 bombers during the German invasion of Crete. The commanding officer, 45 officers and 648 men were killed when she sank.
