The unescorted Empire Engineer, a straggler from convoy SC-20, was hit forward by one G7e torpedo from U-123 and sank by the bow within 4 minutes about 375 miles west-southeast of Rockall. The Germans observed some survivors on rafts at the sinking position, but the there were no survivors - master, 38 crew members and one gunner were lost.

The submarine left Malta on 16 February 1942 to intercept a convoy off Tripoli. By the 23rd she was in position as the convoy hove into view. Amongst the convoy was the Italian torpedo boat Circe. At 08:00 the Circe reported a contact with a submarine and that she turned in to attack. P38 was sunk some 90 nautical miles east of Tripoli, Libya in position 32º48'N, 14º58'E. There were no survivors.

Short Stirling mk III BF523 coded WP-G airborne 0030 13May43 from Ridgewell on a raid to Duisburg. Shot down by a night-fighter (Uffz Emil Heinzelmann, 111./NJG1), crashing 0328 into the IJsselmeer off Nijkerk (Gelderland), Holland. In the years that have passed all have been positively identified and taken for burial in various Dutch cemeteries. The wreckage of BF523 was recovered by the Dutch Air Force in 1967.

On 19 December 1941, following the First Battle if the Syrte, Force "K", consisting of light cruisers HMS Neptune, Aurora, Penelope with destroyers Kandahar, Havock, Lance and Lively, sortied from Malta in the hope of intercepting the Italian convoy known to be heading for Tripoli. At a point 20 nautical miles E of Tripoli, Force "K" entered an Italian minefield, laid by Italian cruiser force in June 1941. At 0106 hrs Neptune, leading the British column, hit a mine and backed her engines but at 0116 another mine detonated under the stern, losing propellers and rudder and going dead in the water. This left the cruiser at the mercy of wind and water in sea state 5 (heavy whitecaps), Neptune hit another mine. A 4th mine detonated under the bridge of Neptune, 5 minutes later she capsized and sank in position 33º15'N, 13º30'E.

At 22.36 hours on 5 Feb 1942, U-136 fired a spread of three torpedoes at HMS Arbutus (K 86) which was escorting the convoy ON-63 about 295 miles west of Erris Head, Ireland. The corvette was hit by one torpedo and sank immediately after breaking in two. The commander, three officers and 39 ratings were lost.

Six of the crew of eight were killed, two are buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery and four are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. The aircraft was one of three 100 Squadron Lancasters lost on this operation.

Wellington T2701 near Finningley airfield. On 24th July 1942 this aircraft this aircraft had taken off from Finningley airfield at 03.30hrs with its crew tasked with a night time series of basic training in a circuits and landings exercise. Twenty minutes into the flight this aircraft had just overshot the runway on one of these landings and was begining to climb away. It had reached a height said to have been between 800 to 1,000 feet about a mile north west of the airfield when it collided with Wellington DV476 which was returning to Finningley from a training exercise. Both aircraft caught fre and crashed with the loss of all eleven airmen who were on board the aircraft.

The submarine left Malta on 16 February 1942 to intercept a convoy off Tripoli. By the 23rd she was in position as the convoy hove into view. Amongst the convoy was the Italian torpedo boat Circe. At 08:00 the Circe reported a contact with a submarine and that she turned in to attack. P38 was sunk some 90 nautical miles east of Tripoli, Libya in position 32º48'N, 14º58'E. There were no survivors.

In the years that have passed all have been positively identified and taken for burial in various Dutch cemeteries. The wreckage of BF523 was recovered by the Dutch Air Force in 1967.

On 19 December 1941, following the First Battle if the Syrte, Force "K", consisting of light cruisers HMS Neptune, Aurora, Penelope with destroyers Kandahar, Havock, Lance and Lively, sortied from Malta in the hope of intercepting the Italian convoy known to be heading for Tripoli. At a point 20 nautical miles E of Tripoli, Force "K" entered an Italian minefield, laid by Italian cruiser force in June 1941. At 0106 hrs Neptune, leading the British column, hit a mine and backed her engines but at 0116 another mine detonated under the stern, losing propellers and rudder and going dead in the water. This left the cruiser at the mercy of wind and water in sea state 5 (heavy whitecaps), Neptune hit another mine. A 4th mine detonated under the bridge of Neptune, 5 minutes later she capsized and sank in position 33º15'N, 13º30'E.

Lancaster ND360 coded HW-N airborne 17:28 on 30 January 1944 from Grimsby on an operation to Berlin. Shot down from 21,000 feet by a night-fighter and crashed in the target area. Six of the crew of eight were killed, two are buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery and four are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. The aircraft was one of three 100 Squadron Lancasters lost on this operation.

Wellington T2701 near Finningley airfield. On 24th July 1942 this aircraft this aircraft had taken off from Finningley airfield at 03.30hrs with its crew tasked with a night time series of basic training in a circuits and landings exercise. Twenty minutes into the flight this aircraft had just overshot the runway on one of these landings and was begining to climb away. It had reached a height said to have been between 800 to 1,000 feet about a mile north west of the airfield when it collided with Wellington DV476 which was returning to Finningley from a training exercise. Both aircraft caught fre and crashed with the loss of all eleven airmen who were on board the aircraft.

An elderly gentleman in Clenchwarton recalled on 29-01-2007 to have seen that the aircraft had jettisoned its bombs in The Wash, before it crashed.
