Wellington X ME978 -J took off from Husbands Bosworth at 12:15 for a navigation detail. Flew into cloud, becoming heavily iced up, and abandoned about 15:25. The wreckage of the bomber was soon cleared from Blease Farm, Knutsford, Cheshire but the body of Sgt Harris lay undiscovered for three weeks.

Lost when the destroyer HMS Jupiter was sunk in the Java Sea. HMS Jupiter was sailing near the northern coast of Java in the beginning of the evening of the 27 February 1942, just before the beginning of the final stage of the battle of the Java Sea, when she was struck by a violent explosion in position 06º45'S, 112º06'E. At the time it was though that it had been torpedoed by Japanese forces. Later it was found that she had struck a mine in a Dutch minefield.

Of the 157 bombers engaged on the raid only ED808 was lost, cause unknown. It crashed about 23 miles north of Le Harve, killing all seven crew.

This crew was on their first operation.
