Lancaster DS766 KO-R airborne at 18:54 on 22 March 1944 from Witchford for a raid on Frankfurt. Hit by Flak over the target and very severely damaged. On return, the crew attempted to land at the emergency airfield at Woodbridge, Suffolk, but crashed at nearby Bredfield, some 8 miles NE of Ipswich.
